Our Story
We’re Dave and Heather Maffei, the couple behind Halfsies Cookie Co. In 2018, after the holidays, we went to Bloomies to make a few returns, including a pair of Gucci loafers that were sooo cute but a little too fancy for me (I’m an Uggs on the weekend kind of girl). Dave—our household cook—happily took the store credit and sprinted to the kitchen electronics’ section and picked out a KitchenAid Mixer (I chose the color—“ice”; a light blue). Determined to master a crispy on the outside, soft on the inside texture, Dave whipped up rendition after rendition until about 10 months later, he cracked the code and landed on the perfect recipe that we immediately tested on our family and friends. Upon bringing a few dozen home to my parents’ house over the following Easter, my Mom whispered to me that they were “way too big” and cut them all in half before serving them on a fancy tray (Dave was mortified). Everyone devoured them (and even chose them over my Aunt Sue’s apple pie—oops) and the name “Halfsies” was born. Dave, the baker, is a former assistant principal at a local high school; I’m a beauty director (and am known for exposing every aspect of our lives on the ‘gram). After posting videos of the cookies, followers asked how they could get some so we decided to make it our official side hustle.
Dave and I met when we were 18 and 16, respectively, at Dewey Beach while on vacation with our families. We rekindled ten years later at a Yankees’ game and have been together ever since. We live in Marlboro, NY with our son D.J. (Bean), our daughter Georgina, and our Great Dane Chunk—and live by a win the day philosophy, which includes getting up at the crack of dawn on the weekdays to get our workouts in and eating multiple halves of Halfsies cookies on the weekends because life is short.
